Before... This garden and swimming pool area was overgrown and over-paved. Separated by a 4 foot high retaining wall with no readily apparent way to get from house to pool made this garden feel like two dead-end spaces. Worse yet, in the focal corner of the garden sat a dilapidated shed.
...and After The existing retaining wall was cut in two by lowering a wide section of the wall and creating a mid-level terrace with broad steps to bridge the upper house terrace and pool area. Connecting the upper and lower areas in an open, flowing fashion creates a sense of space and movement. The shed was replaced by a lovely new pool building that serves both as storage and focal point for the garden.
